Benjamin F. Gruenbaum, M.D., Ph.D.

Benjamin F. Gruenbaum, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified anesthesiologist and Division Chair of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology at Mayo Clinic in Florida, where he also serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. He completed his residency at Yale School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by a comprehensive two-year clinical and research fellowship in neuroanesthesiology. He furthered his academic training by earning a Ph.D. from Yale University, where his research focused on mechanisms underlying changes in consciousness. With expertise in anesthesia for complex neurological and neurosurgical procedures, he is deeply committed to clinical excellence, research, and education. Dr. Gruenbaum serves on the editorial boards of several leading anesthesia journals and on national and international committees. His internationally recognized research spans neuroelectrophysiology, glutamate neurotoxicity, neuroprotection, and the neurological and neuropsychiatric outcomes of brain injury. As Departmental Quality Chair, he has led initiatives to improve patient safety and system-level performance. In addition, Dr. Gruenbaum is actively involved in global health efforts, working to enhance clinical care and education in underserved communities around the world. He is dedicated to driving excellence, innovation, and impact in neuroanesthesiology both locally and globally.
